Can I transfer my waypoints from my old 2610 to my new 855?

How about my routes?

I tried using MapSource (ver. 6.15.9), and it said it transferred
them, but I sure can't find them on the 855.

Thanks.

I figured out how to get the waypoints transferred.

I saved them as a .gpx file in MapSource on my laptop. Then I
copied that gpx file to the GPX directory on the 855. They now
appear in my Favorites.

I wonder where they went when MapSource said they were
successfully transferred?

Anyway, I still haven't figured out how to transfer my routes,
but that isn't nearly as important as the 469 waypoints we have
collected in years of traveling around the country.

The 855 works a little different then the 2610. After you save the
routes from the 2610 and send them to the 855 they don't just show up.
You have to go to tools, my data, then import routes from a file. It
usually seems to think about it for awhile but then the routes will pop
up on a list with a check box along side of it. Check the box for each
route you want it to import and touch import.

For transferring waypoints I use EasyGPS which is a free program. You
can load them from one GPS and save them to another or save them as a
backup .gpx file to the hard drive

Thanks, Don. That did it. My routes have transferred
successfully.

And Garmin said people didn't like the Street Pilots because the menus
were too complicated. As you know when you look at a waypoint with your
2610 in shows the coordinates, well I called them the other day to ask
them if it was possible to look at a coordinate for a waypoint on the
855. The guy put me on hold for two or three minutes and when he came
back on the phone I couldn't believe what he told me I had to do. I
don't know if I will even remember how to do it again unless I write it
down, it consists of going to a bunch of different menus, hitting the
back button a couple of times, putting it in the simulation mode, going
back to the map, and somewhere along the line it finally shows the
coordinate. But man if you want to play an MP3 or look at a picture
that's all right up front.

Thats the problem with the newer GPSr Garmin is getting rid of some of
the GPS functions and are catering to the people that want to play
music, look at pictures, and don't give a damn about the more advanced
GPS functions the Street Pilots had. Whell that's my rant for the day.
