Hi NG

I have a Garmin 3790T.
When I'm using the unit walking in a City, I have only power for 2.5 hours.
Does anybody have experiens with an external battery with og without solar
cells?

I have a little device which takes two AA batteries and will charge up my Garmin
(and camera) via the USB cable.

Search on eBay for PortaPow

I use a handheld gps when walking. Both that and my camera run on disposable
AAs, so I don't have to mess around with any charging devices. It's much the
best way, I find.

The problem is that if you want to use the enhanced pedestrian
features of Garmin's City Xplorer maps, they have in their infinite
wisdom designed these to be accessible only on the Nuvi - so a
handheld does not give you the bus/tram/metro timetables and routes
which are the chief attraction of these maps.

Your 3790 boots up so fast from 'sleep mode' that you should be using
the sleep mode (quick push of the power button) after each glance, to
conserve battery life.

Also, you may find that you don't need 100% brightness that perhaps
~30% brightness will do the trick. If so, reduce the brightness and
even the volume to save battery life.

In a week or so I will have many new articles dealing with new Garmin
units, including the 3700 series. You may want to peek.
