Bought a Garmin 660 about seven months ago which had version 9 Europe maps
installed and discovered quite a few errors due to the maps being out of
date, it also had a problem with my local post codes which had one of the
digits changed by the post office over a year ago. So seeing there was an
update to version 10 (2008) thought it would be a good idea to update the
unit thinking it would correct the out of date maps and postcode errors.
Much to my surprise version 10 has all the same problems! So does any body
have any information to what has been changed?

I note Google maps are correct and free, so why is the Garmin latest update
so out of date?

*If* you READ text message you should have known that the map has never
been up to date, it's always some years behind in general. And in some
cases it may be decades behinds or wrong information.

I hate to repeat my same 40 years old route story which was only up to
date since v2008, and still some minor error on few streetsnext to my house.

So if Google Maps can do it why can't Garmin & Co?

you noted wrong . . .

Google Maps are not free. They are copyrighted by TeleAtlas and it is
not allowed to use them for vehicle navigation.

You can look on the map viewer from Garmin before you buy . . .

Each time I use Google Maps to plan a route I don't pay anything, so is that
not free to me?
