Hi,
Rather than Resucrect an old post...
Just wonder if Garmin's "Electronic compass:         yes (tilt-compensated, 3-
axis)"a Actually works ok without having to hold it Perfectly Flat
while doing a one handed arm stand on using your left arm all while
doing a slow left to right head shake??

My 1 previous and 2 current Garmin's compasses are useless.
I often have been standing out in the snow with 2 Very expensive
Garmins and have No Idea which why is North!!

Thanks!

Google for the same problem in cell phones (Android or iPhone - both
have the problem) and learn about how to recalibrate them by doing a
figure-8 maneuver with the device.

Sorry, I can't find my links.

I hate this way of calibrating. It always fails when *I* am doing it.
The way you calibrate a Garmin 60 CSx looks silly for innocent
bystanders but always works.

It always works for my Android phone, but yes, it sure looks silly to
the uninitiated! Or even to me, come to think of it...

Interestingly, if I start a program that uses the compass, I always have
to calibrate. By that I mean if I start program A and calibrate, then
start program B, I have to calibrate again. PITA...

It occurs to me that you may not know how to do the dance (I didn't
until I ventured onto the web). Look at this:

Or search for "calibrate ipod compass" or "calibrate android compass" on
YouTube. It's a fairly popular topic.

I forgot to mention that you only have to turn around twice when I have
to calibrate the Garmin 60 CSx

This video helped me. Now the compass works fine.
Thanks for your help.
