In the old days, 3-4 years ago, if you got a GPS for Christmas the
maps were almost out of date, if you registered it then (Xmas) you'd
have to pay to gett he new maps coming out in April. But if you waited
until roughly 30 days +/- to register you'd be eligible to get the
next set of maps for free. Does this still apply to GPS purchasers who
don't have lifetime updates? I'm specifically thinking of Garmin.

Thanks,

Norm

Don't know.

You cannot simply assume someone is honest
just because they are not an MP.

I think that would only apply if you hadn't already used it. When I got my
Nuvi 780, I only got a free update within 30 days of the first time it had
made satellite contact.

It doesn't matter when you register it. The time limit is 60 days from the
time you first use the device (i.e. it acquires a satellite fix while
moving). See:

How is Garmin going to know the first time you use the device?
