hi
Do I have a problem with my computer? p4 2ghz xp sp2
I try to put topo us 2008 on a sd card, (except Alaska) (sd card
reader usb2)
Card is 4gb
I try with mapinstall and mapsource.
It as been now 17 hours that the computer is working, only 55% done!!!
Is this normal?
Like I going down to a 486!!!!
Same performance with mapsource. All the latest version.
Suggestions? or comments.

update
It as been now 34 hours computing, 85% done, at full cpu...
This is crazy
Something doesn't sound right and I can't tell what causes the problem.
But you should be able to figure out what's eating up the CPU by
1. Right_Click on the Taskbar (lower_right_corner) then select "Task
Manager"
2. Then select "Process" menu then you should be able to tell which is
eating up the CPU or Memory, and how much CPU left etc..
Sometime the system needs to reboot to refresh memory, and different
option depending on what is going on at your end.
97% cpu is for mapinstall
> 97% cpu is for mapinstall
It means for some reason the MapInstall eats too much CPU causing the
whole system to slow down, and when the system slow down it will take much
longer for it to process.
Since it's almost done now so you may not wanna start all over again, but
next time when something next this starts you may want to reboot the system
to make sure that the memory is fresh (or quite often many TSR programs mess
up the memory and won't release memory back to system causing problem to
other ap).
And sometime you have to make sure some anti-virus program won't cause any
memory problem, or something like try not to have the anti-virus to scan
email or similar which often cause slowness to system.
Hi,
I only have a 2GB card, but putting lot's of files on ( like the US Topo)
can cause troubles. I understood from a previous post, that currently a map
set can only include about 2000 single .img files. The whole US Topo 2008
has much more files.
I put City Navigator NT 2008 and as much as I could the US Topo onto a 2GB
card and this has taken also about 5 or 6 hours to do !!!
I think your problem is the "about 2000 " files limitation for a map set !
Cheers,
JCE
