Hello,
I currently have a MIO C520. On the map screen it shows distance to the
next turn as well as distance to the destination. I REALLY like knowing the
distance to the destination on the map screen at all times!
My wife has started confiscating my MIO for her business travels, and wants
me to purchase a new unit for myself. I like that the Nuvi's can download
off road maps. Costco has a good deal on the 850's so I'm thinking that
way.
Problem is, I'm thinking you can't have the distance to destination on the
map screen? Is this correct? Please tell me I'm wrong!
Thanks in advance,
Brian

the time of arrival shows on the map screen itself, but you have to have
the trip computer up to show the distance to destination.

Why distance? What does that do for you? Won't time of arrival be a
better indicator of what you're looking for?

Hi Elmo,
Maybe it's just a querky thing with me, but I like to see distance. Time
doesn't really mean anything because traffic can change that, or stops
can change that.
Really it's a psycological thing for me! I look up and see that there is
only 46 miles left, it helps me, or that It has been 25 miles since I
last looked, it helps the drive go faster!
I use the GPS for drives that I know and do all the time. Theres a
campground 70 miles from home that I go to. It seems like it takes a
while to get there, but after just driving a half an hour I look at the
GPS and it says 40 miles and somehow all seems ok in the world.
As I said it's MY querk and the MIO has this. I was just wishing the
Garmin allowed you somehow to customize the screen. My very NON
technical buddy has an old Nuvi 350 and he can't ever find the distance
till destination. He wishes it was there.I just thought in the newer
ones you could. I'm not saying it's a deal breaker, but I thought
someone could tell me it can be done!
Thank you for you help!
Brian

To play devil's advocate, distance remaining doesn't really mean
anything because you see nothing change as you sit in traffic, or you
see the same number after you come back from a burger break.

Anyway, you can certainly have the display show you the distance
remaining to the end--but it won't be on the map display.

It's there. He just has to have the trip computer display up. If he's
got a route going, there will be a little checkered flag with the
distance remaining underneath it.

The GPS usually display the distance from *current* POINT to the *next*
POINT, and the ARRIVAL calculates the arrival time from *current* to the
*destination*
