I read on another newsgroup how to keep both versions working on your
computer. Before updating to 6.14.1 find your Garmin folder and double
click on it. Off to the right in an open white space right click and
under new click create a new folder. I then named this
mapsource_old.exe. Find the MapSource exe which has the globe before
it and right click on it and click copy. Then move over to the new
folder you created and right click on it and click on paste. Now the
6.13.7 exe file is in this folder. I then doulble clicked this folder
to open up to see the 6.13.7 exe file and renamed it to MapSource
6.13.7. Then I right clicked on this file and created a short cut for
it on my desktop. Now when I updated to 6.14.1 I still can click on
the old 6.13.7 exe and open MapSource to this version. Then install
6.14.1 and you will have two different icons to click on. One on your
desktop with globe before it for 6.13.7 and the one with a 4 section
square for 6.14.1.

PS you can open these 2 versions at the same time and compare how they
look.

That's interesting. I haven't tried this but if the new mapsource
6.14.1.exe file is the exact same name then the path of 6.13.17 should
point to the new (6.14.1) files.
Sam I can tell you these instructions work. Try it is is cool
comparing the two versions.

Jerry, no doubt this works for you. Not sure why it does. Have a peek
of the properties of most shortcuts and you'll know what I mean:
"Target:", "Start In".
I would try this as an experiment, but it was a real bitch for me to get
old 6.13.17 back after installing 6.14.1. I don't have a test machine so
I don't want to risk anything further with the latest version. I'll wait
until Garmin releases a new version of Mapsource and I see the reviews
before installing it, unlike this time where I just assumed it would be
fine.

Sam sorry you had so much trouble reinstalling 6.13.7. When I first
installed 6.14.1 I just went to add remove programs in windows xp and
remove garmin MapSource then I went to garmin folder and deleted the
MapSource exe file the one with the 4 section square before it then
reinstalled from 6.13.7 download file (http://www8.garmin.com/software/
MapSource_6137.exe )
After installing 6.13.7 this way then I did the instructions I
originaly posted and it worked super just like reported in other
forum.
