I bought a SD card on eBay. The SD case is labelled as:

City Navigator North America NT 2011.10 (010-106-50) MicroSD card with
standard SD adapter

The SD card inside however doesn't have any writing on it. Do you
think this could be a fake copy?

I can't even figure out how to check the version to even verify if
what I got was even 2011.10. How do I do this? I have a nuvi 250.

Thanks,

Norm

plug it in - it will either show the map as avail or not...
You of course have to go look for it under Tools ->

The SD Card version of Garmin maps are "locked"
to the internal serial number of that physical SD card,
and therefore can't be copied....
BUT can therefore be used in any Garmin GPS that supports SD cards.

Probably not fake but a pirated copy that has been hacked so it's
'unlocked'. These 'unlocked' versions being sold online--and downloaded
easily and freely via download and torrent sites--may or may not be
unusable with the new authentication scheme that's being implemented
with the latest and/or future Garmin firmware updates. Make sure that
you have a backup copy of your original maps that came with the GPS just
in case.

It sounds like you don't know the difference between Garmin MAP on memory
card SD/MicroSD card vs Map on DVD or downloadable map.

- MAP on SD/MicroSD card is Hardware protection so it can't be copy, can't
be downloaded from BitTorrent

- The regular map is another stpry you can download from Garmin Web page,
DVD, or other source like BitTorrent
