yesterday, my 2 year old zumo 550 would not power up. I followed the
instructions on Garmin's site to reset including removing the battery. It
still does not work. When connected to my computer, the Garmin software does
not see it as it does not power up.
What else can I do besides replace it. If I have to replace it, it will not
be with another Garmin, since this one died after only two years.
Well, if it's dead and you want to have another working one then you may
not have more than 2 choices.
1. Sending to Garmin to have it fixed. It may not worth to spend money
fixing the old GPS, but who know Garmin may give you a good fixing price
2. The other option is to buy a newer one to replace the dead one. If Zumo
550 doesn't come with street map, then you are not only losing the GPS but
it will cost extra $$$ for the data map.
About its short life. The GPS should live for many years, but as you may
know that many died within few days to under 1 year, and that's why we have
refurbished GPSes at lower price. All of mine last longer than 3 years, and
I still have some 8-9 years old working Garmin GPSes.
Send it to be repaired, you'll get a refurbished unit from Garmin and
your map licences transferred to the new unit. It's a very good deal
that they offer.
The Zumo 550 is obsolete but refurbs still available.
Mine died a couple of times within warranty period & was replaced FOC,
it's been good (touch wood) since then

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.'

I got curious about the price of the Zumo 550 to see if $150 is reasonable
for a repair (it is), but I got a good laugh when I saw this information on
Amazon about another Garmin device:
nuvi 550 - new $259, used from $299.
