I want to install a gps unit in my wife's car.
Some of the criteria I would like to see:
Nice sized screen with clear display.
Voice directions.
Easy to enter direction requests.
Quickly attached/detached (for security issues with many gps units being
smash&grab targets).
Easily updated mapping.
Prefer a Garmin unit
Any other suggestions welcomed from users experience,
satisfaction/dissatisfaction.
TIA

that wasn't available while I had it. I gave the c330 to my daughter
whose Magellan 300 got toasted (completely dead), and I bought a Garmin
c340 on ebay for $260 (due from FedEx any minute now..

FYI,, I'm also looking for a portable car unit, (until I can afford a
newer car, ha)!! I made a trip to Disneyland with my daughter who
has a built in unit in her 2003 honda,, it was almost a pleasure
driving through LA commute traffic with her unit! The two mile
advanced voice notice for which lane to be in was so helpful, (plenty
of time to switch lanes)!!!
The following link may be useful?? At the moment I'm taking a
closer look at the NuVi 660, (it has a little larger screen)??
However, while your driving, I found that advanced voice notice was
more important than screen size!!! In heavy traffic, unless your
stopped, the driver isn't, (or shouldn't be), spending much time
looking at the screen! Unfortunately, the reviews don't give info
on how far in advance the units give voice info,, I may send them an
email??????

I just replaced a c330 with a c550 for my wife's car. My wife was
complaining that while the c330 had voice instructions, the name of the
street was never uttered, that is, the instruction would be "Turn right in
200 feet", but if there was more than one place to turn, she wouldn't know
which one. Additionally, the c330's screen would "wash out" during the day
... it was difficult to see.
Neither of these faults are true with the c550. The instruction is "In 200
feet, turn right on Mulberry Street" and the screen is easily seen even in
the brightest sun.
There are, of course, other features that the c550 has that the c330 does
not such as bluetooth for a mobil phone, traffic infornmation, and mp3
reproduction, but they are not important to my wife. But the most important
feature of all was price. While the c550 costs $600 in Circuit City or Frys
Electronics, I was able to get it through a reputable mail order store at
$350 with free shipping.
