Hi, I bought an i3 and it came with City Select North America NT v7.
I did NOT unlock it, but I am able to select and dump the maps to a
brand new microSD card on my GPS unit. The Web site says I NEED to
unlock it to do that. If so, does it means I have been able to
transfer only a portion of all the informations on the map until I
unlock it? Or that I don't really need to unlock it? Confused...

Version 8 is the latest, which mine came with.. Mine too, same thing.. I
cannot figure out why I had to unlock mine as well.. the maps downloaded..
it might be for updates?

I put in a few calls to tech support for a few issues I had and sorry to
say, I was very disappointed in their inaccuracy...

Version 8 you say? The update page
(http://shop.garmin.com/cartography/mapsource/update/cd_update_details.asp?CD=010-10810-00)
tell about City Navigator, not about City SELECT navigator who is
probably a scaled down version. Mine came with City SELECT v7 and it
is as mentionned into the product page
(http://www.garmin.com/products/spi3/). This will be another future
topic 'Can I upgrade City Select NA v7 to City Navigator NA v8 free if
I purchased my GPS a week ago', but I will NOT ask it you the group
now.

For now, is there anyone who have City SELECT North America v7 and
actually NEEDED to unlock it to make it work? I am missing something
by NOT unlocking it? I don't want to unlock now as I will possibly
upgrade the i3 for a C330, not sure yet. But I want to be able to have
all the map info I need to get a good evaluation.

Sorry, spoke too soon... you're right.. I guess there is City Select 7
(yours) and City Navigator 8 (mine), all with the i3.. to make it more
confusing, some versions of the 13 came with MapSource and some with
MapInstall (mine).

I downloaded MapSource from their site, it's a fuller program. It added on
to MapInstall and since mine was already unlock, worked...Slightly off
topic, but none the less, it seems the plot thickens with the i3...
Good luck, I like mine... simple, and does the job.. .

I already had a Topo map from garmin for my eXtrex Legend and you are
right, the i3 seems to be great. But I am missing the flexibility of
configuration of the eTrex. The eTrex have a lot more settings than
the i3 and I can choose every data panel content (Speed, ETA, etc). I
thought the i3 will have them too. But I think I can live with that.
