OK, another CNNA question.
I ordered the "latest version" CNNA (Part No. 010-10816-00) and was assured
by Garmin that this is the latest NT version. Wrong, I think. I got the
"version 8" which I assume to be the 2008 version. Perhaps I should send it
back and get the CNNA 2010 (still same part #) from GPS City. Note: this is
for my eTrex Vista HCx.
Question: is there really much difference between the older versions and the
2010 version? It may not be worth the hassle to ship this one back and order
again. There's no place to get info like this other than users. Garmin
certainly has a tough time with accurate and specific answers.
Thanks.

Since the "current" version is already a year or more behind for road
updates, what you have is on the order of 3 or 4 years out of date.
[Garmin used to have a policy of supplying a free update to the current
version if you bought and received an older version after the current
version had been released]

I'm also thinking about getting a full/original/not update version CNNA NT for
my 76Cx since Garmin won't allow me to purchase an update for it. I'd
previously used my second update for the 76Cx. Since the price of the full
version has now come down to what I'd previously been paying for an update I'm
trying to decide whether it's time to bite the bullet. (I'm still angry about
not being to just buy an update for the 76Cx.)
I did a little poking around and found that Amazon was selling a full version,
but it looked like it was the 2008 version. One of the secondary Amazon
sources appeared like a possibility so I gave them a call. The person I
talked to said he didn't know, but did say it's what Garmin is currently
shipping. I didn't find that to be particularly reassuring so I called TVNAV
and was told that they are shipping the 2010 version.
I've still not decided to buy since I only use the 76Cx as a position holder
if I'm on a trip and lose track of the car/pick up point location. I don't
have the need for a current version that I have for the 7200 and 2720. If I
do decide to make a purchase, it'll most likely be with TVNAV. They've always
given me a straight answer in the past.
If TVNAV's price is competitive with your source, I'd send the old version
back and order from TVNAV.

If Garmin is trying to cheat or rip you off, then you may ask the hacker
for help.
I just don't like crook.

Nor do I. That's why I'll do without as an alternative. I don't view it as
being cheated. I do think that they alienated good customers by not honoring
a second install as a basis for a paid update.
I also suspect that not being able to carry the "lifetime" updates to hardware
upgrades might have a negative impact on folks being willing to go for the
newest. But, then, I don't think the current new models would serve me any
better than my current mix. I really have no interest in such things as blue
tooth, etc.
