I will be buying a full-featured GPS for my non-tech wife this
Christmas. I am somewhat familiar with GPS's after having owned &
used a Garmin GPS V for several years. I considered & researched the
Garmin Nuvi 660 & 760, Tom-Tom 920T and Mio Digiwalker c720t. This
unit will be used primarily by my wife for around town (Cincinnati),
known location trips and occasional trips to unknown or out of town
locations. Within the next two years, I also plan to take a European
trip and would enjoy having the unit there.

I have pretty much decided to go with the Garmin, but am uncertain as
to which model. I am aware of most of the new features on the 700
series, but would like to know if the 700 & 600 share identical
routing algorithms. Also, what about the TMC info? Is the 760 any
better in this area? Basically, is the 760 worth the extra $150 over
the 660? Finally - should I give further consideration to other
brands/models in this $500 - $700 price range.

TIA - Tom

Why in the world would anyone use a traffic navigation device to driving
around town to known, familiar destinations?

Yabut is says "known location trips". If you know the location you don't
need GPS. Maybe there is a slightly different meaning here as to what is
meant my "known location".

When I got mine I used it to go to work the following day, a trip I've been
making for 18 years. OK it was nifty for the first day, but tiresome the
second day. I did, however, learn something important. Never trust the GPS
to give you the optimal route. It tried to take me around the town green
(left, right, right, left) rather than just stay straight on the route and
go right by it. Incredibly dumb route that was corrected on the new map.
