Hello,
I have a nüvi® 765T. I was wondering if there is any way to change
when the Voice Prompts for next turn occurs. Currently the Voice
Prompts for next turn occur at about ½ mile before the turn. I would
like to change it to either 1.0 miles or even 2.0 miles. Traveling at
70-75 mph on an Interstate doesn't give you much time (< 30 sec.) to
prepare for a turn at this distance. I know I can use the Turn List
page, but that requires taking one's eyes off the road.
Thanks.

error with just that particular Interstate section. I believe that the
turn alert distance is typically based on the average speed tagged for
the road you're traveling on. Thus, closer/shorter warnings on slow
local roads while more advance warnings on highways. You might try
reporting this possible map database error--incorrect speed data
associated with that particular section of the Interstate--to Navteq if
this should be the case.

What the rules seem to be is you get the announcements up to a minute
before the turn *but* no earlier than there is a possible conflicting
path. That is, if there's two ramps from Hwy X to Hwy Y, in the classic
cloverleaf, one eastbound and one westbound, and you are to take the
westbound one but the eastbound ramp comes first, the GPS will not
announce "take ramp right(left) to Hwy Y west" until you're past the
ramp to Hwy Y east. That may leave you with only a tenth of a mile to
make your turn, but if you'd been paying any attention at all to how far
it was to this turn when the *prior* announcement was made (right after
the previous turn was completed, even if it was 20 miles ago), you'd at
least know that you should be expecting to be making a turn someplace
around then.

Thank you. I think you've answered my question.

You are probably correct about variable alerts times. I have noticed
closer warnings on local roads.

I have never timed to see how long or how many mile, but I could say it
gives plenty of time and usually repeat 2-3 times at 80-85 MPH.
You may need to
1. Learn to look at the sides and rear mirror once every ## seconds to get
used to how millions of others taking their eyes off the road. You should
learn to look at many other objects around you while driving
2. You should learn to quick stare at the GPS tens of miles before it's too
late for you to make a right turn.
Yes, we may make the wrong turn at 10-15 MPH because of the pointer may be
off, but not on hi-way as the next exit usually mile(s) not next block
