I plan to buy a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx in USA (half price) and bring it
back and use it in Denmark. I know it will have America basemap. I
then plan to buy a microSD card with City Navigator Nordics on (or
maybe CN Europe DVD). Are there any drawbacks with this plan?
I'm thinking about questions like: a) Will I be missing the Europe
basemap? b) Does it auto route within the area of the detailed map? c)
If I zoom out (still within the area of the detailed map) will I at
some point get a blank screen due to lack of basemap information in
the detailed map? d) other?

Also, can I use NT maps as well as not NT maps on the GPSMAP 60CSx?

I wish I'd bought a US unit after seeing the awful UK basemap - I use a Topo
SD card map on mine with the basemap turned off - auto-routes fine.
Areas not 'officially' on the basemap appear will but have no detail - the
US
shows State borders and a few city names.
I live in a rural area and the basemap doesn't show where I live or any
sensible routes to get anywhere - you really need additional maps for
the GPSr to be of any use except as a compass.

The North American version does not offer as many languages, you may
have to be satisfied with using it in English.

I'd think not. When I have City Navigator on my 76Cx I can turn the
base map off, zoom out to any scale, and see the same things that I'd
see with CN off and the base map on. It appears that all the base map
detail is included in the CN maps although I don't know that for sure
that is true for all areas. I would think all the detail would have to
be included because some of the newer preloaded models don't have base
maps, only the preloaded NT maps.
b) Does it auto route within the area of the detailed map?
Yes.

Not in my experience.
d) other?
Can't think of one.

Some of non-NT cartography products (world map, topo, and BlueChart for
example) are listed as compatible with the 60/76 "x" series models and
I've not noticed any warning about mixing the two in a uploaded map.
I've stayed with the non-NT version of CN because my 2610 is not NT
compatible.
As an aside, if you did not know it, World Map (up through V3 anyway)
will not autoroute on any GPS receiver, it will only do point to point
routes. Not sure if that changed in V4. Kind of hard to understand why
Garmin omitted the routing vectors from that. The same roads will
autoroute on base maps and other map packages, why would they not want
them to autoroute on World Map?
