Try the following site for free maps with contours and routing
available in UK. http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm
These maps have more detail than Topo GB and are updated weekly.

The maps on the talkytoaster website are adapted from openstreetmap.org.
Have a look at the area you are interested in on the openstreetmap site to
see the detail recorded so far. Some areas are much better covered than
others.

Thank you one and all for your help. Yes there are roads on the Topo GB
when displayed on Mapsource, however when downloaded onto my 60CSX,
whatever the area covered only Motorways seem to be there! Perhaps there
is a problem with the way it loaded the maps. I'll give it a retry.

Also have a look at the link below for OpenStreetMap.org. From there you can
download copyright free maps of the UK, (or the rest of the world), that
will work on the Garmins. OpenStreetMap is dependent on what details other
users have entered, so can be a bit patchy, but there are some highly
detailed areas covered, especially for hiking and cycling.
