I got the v7 upgrade (already had v6 on my N=FCvi and PC, running just
fine). Used the new 25 digit unlock code on the PC using the unlock
utility. Utility says "maps unlocked", like normal.
However the maps on the PC NEVER are unlocked, and can't be loaded
into the N=FCvi!
Have tried several times, always same result!
Garmin Australia distributors (worthless sacks of excrement) tell me
to "call Garmin in the US" and gave me a US toll-free number that's
still an expensive toll call from Oz. And I'm not going to pay to be
put on hold for hours. . . .
Seems like lots of people having problems with the v7 upgrade. I
agree that the maps in Australia (basically the same size as maps for
southern California) are grossly overpriced - you can buy a new
TomTom
or other unit for $350 from Dick Smith, with the same maps. All I'm
asking for is some customer support for this overpriced map set. . .

I don't think you are using the correct 25 digit key for your V7 Map.
Any key within a certain range will indicate the map is unlocked when you
enter it but if it is incorrect for your own unique GPS ID will not unlock
the maps full details or allow upload to the GPS..
What do you see when you look under the "utilities/unlock maps/next/view my
unlock codes/"highlight V7 Map"/properties.
Is V7 Map listed there correctly and unlocked with V7 Aus region, 25 digit
code and expire=none?

I am having what sounds like exactly the same problem, and GME have been
unable to resolve the issue - they're "waiting for information from Kansas",
which is where I assume Garmin is based.
Looking at the "view my unlock codes", the code entered for the v7 upgrade
shows region as "Unknown", shows the 25 digit code correctly entered with
expiration as "none".
Like the other writer, when I entered the 25 digit code, it said it
"worked", however clearly something is stuffed up somewhere.
I too am unimpressed with Garmin support - lots of stories about people
having to send their units in for repair, which is absurd for a
software-based system.

Where did you get your 25 digit code from ?
You cannot use the code that came on the yellow piece of paprer with
the unit as this is only for v6
You must generate a new code on Garmins website
I have not heard of 'many people having to send in their units for
repair'
What porblems ? How many ?
