Got my 2730 this week. Subscribed to XM and using FM modulator due to
multiple vehicle use and cant use direct connection via cable to radio.
The FM modulator seems very week and only works decently with vehicles with
car antenna in front of car.
Had a Delphi XM Roady 2 and it worked well in same FM xtmr setup.
GPS works well although the little talking lady has some weird
pronunciations of some streets!
Mine is not performing well also. I was using a SkiFi2 before so I did have
something to compare it to.
I believe the end of the cigarette adapter is the RF modulator. I think if I
get an extension cable, I can place it higher and closer to the radio and
antenna. This may improve things.
Also did you try loading MP3s? There may be a issue with some that the GPS
does not like and it locks the unit up on power up. Solution is to power up
the unit and go into the storage mode with a USB cable connection. Then
delete the MP3s and the unit will power up normally. No one has said what is
wrong with the MP3. They are ones I've had and play on every other MP3
playing device I got.
I have not tried to hook it to computer at all.
Garmin said the antenna was in the power cable which would lead me to
beilieve the transmitter is in the unit.
What are the two pins on side of speaker in the power cable for?
This 2730 does work pretty well using FM xtmr IF the vehicle has an antenna
on the from fender near the windhshield. Mainly SUVs and trucks are like
this.
If antenna is in rear window or roof, you are most probably out of luck.
Also, today went 150 miles. it gave me some strange route to follow! But
then I only been playing with this so far, may be I need to do something
different. Have tried, but no luck.
Think I am going to try a nuvi350...more money down the rathole!

The dead-reckoning cable for those units that support it (such as the
SP 7500).

In the custom avoidance section you can tell the unit to prefer certain
road categories. I've found that setting the unit to prefer major
roads helps a lot. The v7 maps seem to favor arterial/medium roads
by default which leads to some odd routing choices. The v6 maps
created more reasonable maps on the default settings.

My FM modulator is a bit weak. It's kind of irritating but using

88.5, which is a fairly clear frequency in Cleveland, I find others
with XM/Sirius units driving by me and blowing away the Garmin XM
receiver. Hope someone comes up with a solution since direct
connection is not an option with my factory radio.
