I'm curious. So many of the posters here have questions or issues with
their GPSs not accurately reporting local, well known phenomena-- closed
or new roads, points of interest, etc.

Why do you use your GPS on your daily commute or to find your way to the
neighborhood grocery store-- routes you could probably drive with one
eye closed?

The corollary question is how often do you use it to find your way in
unfamiliar territory or locate a needed service-- ATM, drug store, auto
repair facility?

I have a Garmin but rarely use it. Yesterday was an exception though
when I found myself in unexpected need of cash while in unfamiliar
territory and wanted to locate an ATM from my bank to avoid rip-off
fees. Turns out there was one less than a mile away...

Your experience is similar to mine. The GPS will sit on a shelf by the door
for weeks. I've been working for the same comp any for 20+ years and I know
every variation of routes and every POI within a few miles of those routes.

When I have to go to an unfamiliar place, it goes with me. Often, I'll
program in the address but not use it until I'm near the town where it is.
I already know to get to New York, or Boston or Chicago, that I have to turn
left out of my driveway. I may not know what exit off the highway so that
is when I hit the "go" button.

That was my question, too.

They must be obssessed with gadgetry to the point of distraction.

If I'm going on a long trip, I know how to get out of the city--probably
two dozen ways. That a road near me is now closed is meaningless. So
what if Jill keeps urging me onto that road? I ignore her, and get out
of the city and get on my way.

        Do you read our reports?

Do you need a silly answer to your silly question?

If I don't know the location then I use it all the time, or I don't want
to go with out it. But not the specific above.

I use GPS to find specific address.

Which mean you don't need to find the address or store you already knew.
Not many people using GPS to locate the ATM like you to worry about being
ripped-off, and ATM can rip you off if you WALK to it too.

If you found something in unfamilair territory then that's what we call
LUCK and GPS doesn't have this feature yet.

What I can tell from your post is that you have money to burn. How nice.

What I can't tell though is whether you simply have a reading
compression problem-- or are just plain stupid overall. Could you clarify?
