I took my US based Nuvi 1450 to France on a recent trip. It wouldn't
acquire satellites there. Why?

did you turn it on,
and give it a long time to re-establish where it was in the world ?

BTW - not sure if the 1450 has this feature, sat view -
but if you go to the main screen,
and in the upper left corner - the sat strength bars -
press & hold the icon for about 10 secs
and the screen "may" change to the sat view -
listing the sats received, strength, and their relative locations.

Not sure about the Nuvi but my GPSmap 76CSx has the facility to tell the
unit your approximate location and that should speed up acquisition of
satellites.

when you travel a long distance on the surface of opur globe or in time
they need a long time to find out where they are because the quick fix
routine cannot establiosh where you are in time or place.
