Hi there,

I have a CSX60 and would like to transfer map data to the MicroSD card that
it carries. After some initial troubles, this now works fine with the
supplied 64MB (ScanDisk) MicroSD card. Now I would like to do the same with
another card - the 1GB Hama MicroSD card. This time, I get the error message
'memory not ready' (or something similar, since my O/S is in German). My
questions are:
- do some SD cards not work?
- do I need to format the disk or make some other configuration change?
Many thanks in advance!

If you put the card in reader (or in the 60CSx and put the GPS in Mass
Storage Mode), the microSD card should be seen as a Removable Disk from
Windows Explorer. It will appear as another hard drive under My Computer.

If you right click on it and click on Properties, Windows will read the
drive and tell you the size, format type, and some other info. If the
drive is not formatted it will probably ask if you want to format it.

If the card shows as empty it should be ready to use. But if it there
is any question about it, I would simply re-format it.

On the formatting, the choices would normally be FAT or FAT32. FAT
would be a conservative choice that should let that card be read in
almost any device later. Some newer cards come formatted to FAT32, most
older cards were formatted FAT. FAT is also sometimes called FAT16.

I just bought a new SanDisk 2 GB microSD card and it arrived
pre-formatted to FAT. I generally use FAT for all my cards simply
because the came that way and work everywhere I use them. But many
people use FAT32 and report no problems with it.

Yes. Standard SanDisk memory cards do work.

You've got some good answer from others. Just want to say I ordered a 2 GB
card from Crucial and it works just fine. The advice about using a card
reader really pays off: I transferred the entire CityVavigator V7 to my 2 GB
card through an external reader. I did not keep track of the time, but it
took longer to load a few hundred megs to the card via the Garmin cable. Now
I use the cable for waypoint information only. All mapping info is loaded
through a card reader.

Downloaded and installed last night. No problems.
