Having spent the weekend walking I found that a new pair of batteries
died within 7 hours. Is that reasonable? Which batteries, either
rechargeable or otherwise give the longest life, and about how long
please? I headed it UK as living, here I would like suggestions of those
available in the UK. TIA

Lithium batteries will outperform all other batteries. The down side is that
they are more expensive and can't be recharged.

I get around 12-15 hours from 2600mAh Nimh batteries while writing the trace to
the MicroSD card.

Alkaline batteries give me around the same time without writing to the MicroSD
card.

This is with the backlight off.

Lithium batteries are not to be used on 60 csx. Voltage of these cells
are over 1.7v and it will cause gps shutdowns,if batteries are brand
new. The setting for lithium's was removed by Garmin in SETUP / SYSTEM
Menu for that reason. The best option is ENELOOP rechargeable
batteries from Sanyo.Even with 2000mAh capacity they will outperform
higher capacity batteries because of their low shelf discharge rate.

Best batteries ever are the GP ReCyko+. Biggest advantage: they don't run
empty when not used for a while. In my 60CSx they seem to work weeks in a
row. Detailed specs: Green Generation Battery Technology, NiMH, 2050 mAh,
1.2 V.
