        I have Nuvi 1490T and I sometime use it on my motorcyle, and the cheap
poor design of USB connector worry me too. IOW, when it screw up which
seems very possible, I am not only losing the USB connection but the whole
GPS because USB is the only connection.

I think it might help to tell us what you have,
and what you are trying to load... and the technique or steps you are
using...

"how to add maps" could mean lots of things,
and the "Scottish Contour Maps" is just one piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for all the relevant help. I have actually solved it by finding
downloading and using Img2gps, even a simple person like me can use that!
