I've replaced my GPS recently, now would like to load a map onto it. How
do I go about this please, just point me to a web site would be fine?
I've googled until my fingers are sore but cannot find how. I can see
nothing in the owners manual or on Garmin's web site that helps!
The instructions need to be in simple terms that I understand. I tried
loading the Scottish Contour Maps, which I had on the old 60CSX, but
that simply corrupted Mapsource for me, I suspect because I am now on
Windows 7, not XP as previously!

I have a new Etrex and bought maps on SD card from Garmin. If you try
to add maps to card, they will overwrite it so simple solution appears
to buy a new card for any special free maps.

There is some general information in the OpenStreetMap wiki:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download

Note the menu box for additional pages on the right.

I just buy a microSD card (capacity up to 8 GB), and put the
Garmin image file into a directory called "Garmin". The image
file must be called gmapsupp.img, and can simply be renamed to
that if it is already in the correct Garmin format.

If you need to combine several such image files into a single
gmapsupp.img file, the free IMG2GPS program will do the job:

I was told that you can also just rename any additional maps
gmapsupp2.img gmapsupp3.img and so on. That way you can just load the
set you want.

I'd heard that you could access additional maps by naming them
gmapsup2.img, gmapsup3.img, and so on. I've not been able to get
that to work on either my nuvi 1350 or my GPSmap 60CSx.

I've just tried with gmapsupp2.img (note the extra "p"), with the
same negative result.
