Couple of questions, if you don't mind helping

One, when Garmin ships their 255W's do they always just send a "Quick
Set Up" manual and not a regular users manual ?

Two, I am going on vacation and want to change my "HOME" to the vacation
spot instead of my home in oHIo. How can I do this while being on vacation.

Three, is there a way of finding out how current the map installed on my
255W is ?

yup - it's more of learning by playing around with it -

yup - try Tools -> My Data - you usually first Save a location to
Favs,
and then use My Data to Set Home to that favs location

yup - Tools -> Settings -> Map -> at the bottom of screen -> Map

it shows North America NT 2010.10 with a check mark then
[1] ALL

how do I find out how current it is?

I believe 2010.3 is the latest. When you register it with Garmin you should
be able to get one free update.

The last GPS I got a written manual with was my 2820, but you can
download the manual in PDF format from Garmin's site.
