If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
A file that is entitled:
(number).img
can be loaded directly onto the SD card of an eTrex, without any
"support" files or utilities?

yes - but you have to rename it from
/Garmin/12345678.img to
/Garmin/gmapsupp.img
